Privacy Policy

Ecko is built by Alterras LLC. This policy describes how Ecko handles your data.

Your Content Stays on Your Device

All of your flashcards, decks, study history, spoken answers, and audio recordings are stored locally on your device. Ecko does not upload, transmit, or store your content on any server.

Voice and Speech Data

Ecko uses on-device speech recognition (Apple's Speech framework) to transcribe your spoken answers. Audio is processed entirely on your device and is never sent to Alterras LLC or any third party. Apple's own privacy terms govern the speech recognition service.

LLM / AI Features

Ecko's production practice feature can connect to an LLM backend that you configure (such as a local model, Gemini, or an OpenAI-compatible API). When you use this feature, prompts and responses are sent to the provider you choose. Alterras LLC does not operate or intermediate these connections. Review your chosen provider's privacy policy for how they handle data.

Anonymous Analytics

Ecko collects anonymous usage data to understand how the app is used and to improve it. This includes:

• App usage patterns (e.g., study sessions started, features used)
• Performance and stability data (e.g., crash reports, app launch time)
• Device information (e.g., device model, OS version)

This data is not linked to your identity. We do not collect your name, email address, or any personal information. We do not use advertising identifiers or track you across apps.

You can opt out of analytics at any time in Ecko's Settings.

Third-Party Services

Ecko uses the following third-party services for analytics and crash reporting:

• Sentry — crash reporting and error tracking
• PostHog — anonymous product analytics

Both services receive only anonymous, non-identifying data. No card content, spoken text, or personal information is sent to these services.

Developer Log (Opt-In)

Ecko includes an optional developer log that records voice answer details to a CSV file stored on your device. This feature is off by default and must be explicitly enabled in Settings. The log never leaves your device unless you choose to share it via the Files app.

iCloud

Ecko uses iCloud Key-Value Storage to store a single timestamp (your app install date) for trial period management. No flashcard content, study data, or personal information is stored in iCloud.

Children's Privacy

Ecko does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app collects no personal information from any user.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date.
