Anima — Privacy Policy

A breathing app by Alterras LLC

The short version

Anima's core breathing experience works entirely on your device — nothing about your sessions leaves your phone. The only data that ever goes off-device is an optional feedback form you choose to submit. If you submit it, your answers are stored in our private Apple CloudKit database and linked to your iCloud account identifier (an Apple-assigned ID — not your name or email). We never sell or share your data, and there's no advertising, analytics, or tracking of any kind.

Optional feedback (the only data we collect)

Anima includes an optional in-app feedback form. Filling it out is entirely voluntary, and you can use every core feature without ever touching it. If you choose to submit it, the app sends your responses to our private Apple CloudKit database (part of Apple's iCloud infrastructure, under our developer account).

• What's collected. Two free-text answers (what keeps you from stillness, and how we can help) plus optional demographic selections — age range, gender, meditation experience, how you found the app, and your primary goal. Every field is optional.
• How it's identified. Submissions are associated with your iCloud user record identifier — an ID Apple assigns to your account. We never collect your name or email, but because this ID is tied to your Apple account, the feedback is considered "linked to you" under Apple's privacy terms.
• Why we collect it. To understand the people who use Anima and improve the app. As a thank-you, submitting feedback unlocks a period of free access — but feedback is never required to use Anima.
• Where it lives. In our private CloudKit (Apple) container. We can read submissions; other users cannot. It is never sold, never shared with third parties, and never used for advertising.
• Requires iCloud. Sending feedback requires being signed into iCloud. If you're not signed in, no feedback is sent.

Data stored on your device

• HealthKit — Mindfulness minutes. With your permission, Anima writes mindfulness session data to Apple Health. This data is stored in HealthKit on your device and is never sent to us or any third party. You can revoke this permission at any time in Settings > Health > Data Access.
• Session history. Anima stores your breathing session records (date, duration, pattern, palette) locally on your device using SwiftData. This data is not collected by us.
• Preferences. Your settings (breath pattern, palette, duration) are stored locally using UserDefaults. No account is required to use the app.

Purchases

Anima offers a 7-day free trial, after which you can continue with an auto-renewable subscription ($0.99/month or $9.99/year) or a one-time lifetime purchase ($14.99). All purchases are handled through Apple's StoreKit. Apple processes every transaction and handles all payment information — we never receive or store your payment details.

Data we do not collect

• No analytics or usage tracking
• No advertising or ad identifiers
• No crash reporters
• No third-party SDKs that collect data
• Nothing about your breathing sessions ever leaves your device

Third-party services

Anima does not use any third-party analytics platforms, crash reporters, or advertising networks. The feedback form uses Apple's CloudKit — Apple's own first-party infrastructure, under our developer account — and is used only for the optional feedback described above. It is not third-party tracking.

Children's privacy

Anima is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The optional feedback form never asks for your name, email, or other directly identifying details, and submitting it is always voluntary.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will revise the date below. We encourage you to review it periodically.
